Maya was born in Peru and left her native country due to the discrimination she experienced at the time. Once she arrived in the U.S., she sought to better herself by working as a cosmetologist and, years later, as a patient navigator. In the latter capacity, she helped many members of the LGBTQ+ community successfully navigate the complex and daunting New York State healthcare and insurance system. As the Chief Engagement Officer, Maya is working to increase access to our programs and services while developing trusting and supportive relationships in the communities we serve.
